They say it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill, but the harsh Salt Lake City winters often stand in the way of that goal. That is why we established the Salt Lake Golf Academy: a state-of-the-art, indoor and outdoor training facility designed for golfers who want to elevate their game regardless of the season.
Since 2005, we have been the premier destination for introducing newcomers to the sport, training up-and-coming athletes, and providing enthusiasts with a consistent place to learn and develop. Utilizing advanced launch monitors and multi-angle camera systems, we break down your swing to isolate specific areas for improvement, providing you with precise, data-driven feedback.

No two swings are alike. Due to the differences in mental and physical make-up, every swing has its own fingerprint. I believe the golf swing should be based on motion, NOT position. My goal as a coach is to train players to understand their motion and how to aim it to the target. Target awareness should be present from the pre-shot routine to the set-up and through the finish of the swing. This will allow the player to play with their senses rather than thought. To accomplish this, I educate my students on the learning process: understanding cause and effect in the golf swing, proper practice, and how transfer what they have worked on to the golf course.

Following graduation, Tommy moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where he worked as an Assistant/Teaching Professional for Troon Golf at The Phoenician Resort. In 2007, Tommy moved back to Salt Lake City to complete his MBA at the University of Utah. Tommy was elected to the PGA of America as a Class A Member in 2013 and throughout his career has taught over 10,000 lessons. Tommy had the privilege of being taught throughout his childhood by Utah Golf Hall of Fame Member, Jimmy Thompson. Tommy has received multiple awards for his teaching and playing expertise:
I believe for a player to play their best, they must have an understanding of cause and effect of their ball flight. For a player to be successful, they must understand their swing tendencies, recognize that they are occurring based on their ball flight, and know what they must do to correct them. Once a player understands their swing and the resulting shots that it produces, they must learn how to practice for effective transfer to the course.
